Blood Center Hosts June 10 Reimbursement Seminar

By ROBIN DAVIDSON
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is hosting a Blood Costs Coding and Reimbursement Seminar in conjunction with Advanced Medical Technology Association and the American Association of Blood Banks. Held at Reliant Center June 10, the luncheon seminar is designed to educate hospitals about the complex reimbursement challenges of blood components.

The seminar aims to build a basic understanding of how reimbursement policy impacts blood component payment, and will explain the cost structure and charges for blood components. Attendees will also learn the fundamentals of Medicare’s prospective payment systems for hospital inpatient and outpatient services and about recent changes to those systems. Specific billing and coding instructions for blood and blood components will be provided, as well as guidance on how to spot common billing and coding errors. A series of facilitated discussions will teach attendees how to formulate responses to insurers who deny payment or request additional information, and clarify coverage and payment policies and provider billing issues for blood and blood components.

Hospital and transfusion facilities that utilize Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, health care administrators, chief executive officers, chief financial officers, controllers, senior management, compliance officers, reimbursement specialists, cost accounting managers, patient financial services managers, billing supervisors, and others interested in improving their understanding of health care financial issues will benefit from this seminar.

Registration deadline is June 3. Contact Joe Martinez, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center accounting manager, at (713) 791-6203.
