Memorial Hermann Appoints First-Ever Chief Medical Officer Memorial Hermann Healthcare System President and CEO Dan Wolterman announced May 22 the appointment of John M. Zerwas, M.D., as the first-ever senior vice president-chief medical officer of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System. Zerwas will assume the post July 7. “Today, more than ever before, the increasing complexities of health care and the growing importance of our ongoing clinical quality improvement efforts call for a physician’s perspective and counsel at the senior executive level,” said Wolterman. “Dr. Zerwas has shown outstanding leadership as a clinician, business executive and governance leader over the last 20 years.” An anesthesiologist, Zerwas earned his doctorate in medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. He has been affiliated with Memorial Hermann since 1985 and has served as a board member since 1994. A member of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and Memorial Hermann Hospital System boards, he chairs the System Quality Committee and the Clinical Resource Management Committee and serves as a member of the Finance Committee.
