HCC-Southeast College Names Interim President Diana Castillo, a 27-year Houston Community College System veteran, has been named interim president of Houston Community College-Southeast. The Southeast College is comprised of several HCC campuses and education centers, including HCC’s John B. Coleman, M.D. Health Science Center in the Texas Medical Center. Castillo replaces Sylvia Ramos, Ed.D., who departed HCC to become president of one of the seven community colleges making up City Colleges of Chicago. Prior to assuming the interim presidency, Castillo served for five years as the Southeast campus operations officer and as assistant dean of student services at HCC’s Central campus. Castillo has a bachelor of science degree in education from Texas A&I University in Kingsville and a master’s degree in educational psychology from Texas A&M University. She also holds a certificate from the University of Kentucky’s College Business Management Institute and has completed courses leading to a doctoral degree in higher education administration from Texas A&M. A licensed professional counselor, Castillo began her employment at with HCC in 1976 as a part-time English instructor in the Upward-Bound program and, a year later, became a full-time counselor. Castillo also has participated in the women’s leadership program sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges and in the Texas A&M Community College and Technical Institute Leadership Development program. In Houston, she holds memberships in Leadership North Houston, Houston Hispanic Women in Leadership, the University of Houston at Clear Lake’s Celebrating Your Elders Essay and Scholarship Committee, and Toastmasters.
