Excellence in Medical Reporting Awards Presented by Harris County Medical SocietyLocal journalists were honored for outstanding medical/health reporting at the 2003 Francis C. Moore, M.D., Medical Journalism Awards luncheon hosted by the Harris County Medical Society and Houston Academy of Medicine May 12. “Broadcast and print journalists provide an invaluable service by informing the public of new procedures and medical/health issues,” said Harris County Medical Society President Kenneth L. Mattox, M.D. At the awards ceremony, Mattox and Houston Academy of Medicine President Phillip G. Sutton, M.D., presented Awards of Excellence to: Patricia Gras at KUHT-TV; Christi Myers and John Mubarak at KTRK-TV; Paul Pendergraft at KUHF-88.7 FM Radio; Veronica Bucio, Kevin Moran and Ron Nissimov at the Houston Chronicle; and Ronda Wendler at Texas Medical Center News. Awards of Merit were presented to: Christi Myers and Lori Reingold at KTRK-TV; Paul Pendergraft and Capella Tucker at KUHF-88.7 FM Radio; Pat Hernandez at KILT-100.3 FM Radio; Erika Durham at the Conroe Courier; Ronda Wendler and Kathleen Charter at Texas Medical Center News; and Kristi King at the Houston Defender. The Francis C. Moore, M.D., Medical Journalism Award is named for one of the founding members of the Harris County Medical Society. Moore was a practicing physician and mayor of Houston during the mid-1800s.
