  • Houston Community College-Southeast Health Science Center is offering a number of academic courses this summer, in both five-week (May 30-June 30) and 10-week (May 30- Aug.11) programs.   • The Houston Parks and Recreation Department and Friends of Hermann Park have opened the Bayou Parkland in Hermann Park. The Parkland features 80 acres of urban forest along the winding Brays Bayou and a 2,000 square-foot multi-use pavilion that will host educational nature programs. The facility also has lighted parking , a picnic area and restrooms. Come and visit this urban oasis.

  • Awakening the Creative Process: An Introduction to Healing Through the Expressive Arts, sponsored by the Jung Center, June, 12, 13, 14 and 15, 2-3:30 p.m. A class for individuals suffering from chronic illness and life-threatening disease. This class is designed to relieve stress and access one's creativity through a variety of forms. Class size is limited. For information, call 713-524-8253.

  • Yes, there is such a thing as a FREE lunch! The Houston Parks and Recreation Department will continue a 16-year tradition of providing a nutritious free lunch to Houston children ages 1-18. The 2000 Summer Food Service Program will take place at over 300 sites across the city from June 5 through August 11. An estimated 16,000 box lunches - sandwich, fruit, juice and milk - will be distributed daily, as well as afternoon snacks. The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Human Services and is intended to feed the many children who participate in the Free School Lunch Program during the school year.
