Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service Library Cards Members of the public have always been welcomed at the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center (HAM-TMC) Library to do research and use computerized resources, but until now they have been unable to take materials home with them. Thanks to grants provided by the Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library, the Houston Endowment, and the Rockwell Fund, the Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service was created to provide health information to the general public. The collection includes books and videos on subjects like heart disease, cancer, and smoking cessation. The HAM-TMC Library has implemented a new service to provide public access to the Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service collection. The Library is happy to announce that it now offers free library cards to members of the public so that they may check out books and videos from the consumer collection. (Items are marked "Consumer" on the spine). The cards do not provide library services such as interlibrary loan or remote access, nor do they allow materials to be borrowed from other consortium libraries. These library cards will be a different color from regular library cards and will have Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service printed on them in order to distinguish them from the full service cards. Holders of these cards will be subject to the same fines, $1.00/per day, and circulation rules as regular library card holders. Books circulate for two weeks, audiovisual materials for one week. To obtain your free library card, go to the Library's circulation desk.
