Wellness Camps Encourage Health Child Lifestyles

Texas Children’s Hospital is offering day camps that teach nutrition and promote physical activity. Lessons learned empower children to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Kids may use the Texas Children’s Wellness Center’s exercise facility to learn appropriate physical activity levels. Assessments provide feedback about each child’s current physical fitness level. Nutrition classes focus on menu planning, wise food choices, cooking healthy meals, reading food labels, appropriate ways to lose/maintain body weight, and planning healthy snacks.

Daily group activities and field trips include swimming, ice skating, street hockey, and rock climbing, among others.

Special invited guests will share expertise on nutrition, exercise and other wellness topics.

Children ages 5 through 12 who are capable of participating in moderate to vigorous physical activities, including swimming, and who have no physical, emotional or medical limitations that may impose hardships on other children or a disruption in planned activities may register. Each camp takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and enrolls a maximum of 10 campers. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
