WIC is a nutrition education and food supplement program for pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children under age 5. Single fathers, grandparents and foster parents may also be eligible for WIC services for their children. WIC is designed to provide nutrition, counseling, immunizations, breastfeeding education and support, referrals to other programs, and vouchers for healthy foods that are high in vitamins and minerals. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements based on monthly income. Families may be eligible for WIC even if parents are working. Applicants in qualified families should bring identification, proof of address, and income and shot records for all children under age 5. For more information about WIC registration, call (713) 794-9090 or 1-800-942-3678. Standards for participation in WIC are the same regardless of sex, age, handicap, race, creed, national origin or political beliefs.
