They've been a duo at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital since Lyndon Johnson occupied the White House. They've stayed a team longer than the legendary Abbott and Costello. Volunteers Jackie Sessel and Shirley Feinstein are celebrating their 35th year together at St. Luke's.

One may be inclined to think that they've seen a lot of changes take place, but as the saying goes, "the more things change, the more things stay the same."

"We've seen the floors around here go from vinyl to carpet and then back to vinyl," Sessel says.

Carpeting details aside, one thing that hasn't changed is their commitment to each other.

While they've seen things change a lot around the hospital, they've been a constant through the years. They currently work every Monday morning on the snack cart going around from floor to floor on a three-hour tour serving up coffee and other goodies. They're the only volunteers that work the snack cart.

"It's our day together," Sessel says. "It's a day I look forward to."

"From what I gather, it's not a job many people like," Feinstein says, "but we love it."

The snack cart didn't even exist when they started. Sessel and Feinstein first volunteered at St. Luke's on the third floor coffee stand in 1965. The metamorphosis to the cart was a positive change for them because they got to see more of the people around the hospital.

They say they have no plans to end their St. Luke's days anytime soon. "A lot of people don't want to volunteer, which I can't understand," Feinstein says. "But we just have a really good time."
