Trainees - Making Cancer History May 11-12 The faculty and staff at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center not only take pride in caring for patients and conducting cutting-edge research, but also in educating and recognizing the cancer specialists of tomorrow. Since 1997, M. D. Anderson Associates have sponsored the Trainee Recognition Day and Research Exposition - an event that showcases research conducted by the institution's graduate students, post-doctoral trainees and fellows. This year's Trainee Recognition Day will take place May 11-12. More than 100 scientific posters will be on display in the Robert C. Hickey Foyer and LeMaistre Ballroom at M. D. Anderson during the two-day symposium, from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. The top two recipients of both the AMGEN Award in Basic Science and the Bristol Myers-Squibb Award in Clinical/Translational Research will present his or her research May 12 at Grand Rounds, from noon-1 p.m., in the Hickey Auditorium. AMGEN and Bristol-Myers Squibb have supported this program since its inception. Individuals vying for one of six Poster Presentation Awards also will be announced at that time. A coffee and dessert reception will follow the Grand Round presentations from 1:15-2 p.m. Trainees will be at their posters during this time. Faculty and staff are encouraged to interact with them and discuss individual research projects. Prior to the symposium, trainees submitted abstracts of their work in basic science or clinical/translational research. A panel of judges, chaired by Dr. Janet E. Price, associate professor of cancer biology, received more than 100 research briefs for their review. - Eileen A.
