International Healthcare Holdings and Baylor Form Alliance by B.J. Almond Baylor College of Medicine International Healthcare Holdings Inc. (IHH) has formed an alliance with Baylor College of Medicine to support the company's managed health care business in Latin America. Baylor's department of family and community medicine, chaired by Dr. Stephen Spann, will help IHH develop a team of well-qualified primary care physicians in Brazil and Argentina, IHH's major markets in Latin America. "Through this new alliance, IHH can offer a wider spectrum of services to patients in our health care system," says Steven Bartley, chief executive officer of the company. "In cooperation with Baylor, we hope to develop a system that increases the quality of health service coverage while keeping costs affordable for the marketplace." Baylor physicians will travel to Latin America to help credential physicians who will provide health care services through the IHH network and teach them current concepts of primary care, family medicine, and managed health care. Clinical practice guidelines will also be implemented to help physicians better manage the care of patients. Through the use of modern telemedicine technology, Baylor also hopes to provide a consultation service from its Houston facilities to physicians in Latin America who have patients with difficult health problems and desire advice from Baylor specialists. For patients who are unable to obtain specialized medical procedures in Latin America, IHH-affiliated physicians will be able to make referrals to clinics and physicians at Baylor and its affiliated hospitals. International Healthcare Holdings is a provider of health care services and manager of medical claims for the Latin America market.
