Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library Establishes Special Staff Development Fund Recently, the Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library created the Mary and Ben Anderson Fund for Library Development. The fund was made possible by a gift from the Wills Foundation in honor of the Andersons, who were original founders of the Friends group and have been consistent supporters of the group’s fund-raising efforts for more than 40 years. In addition, money raised during last year’s “Most Fascinating Dinner Gala” was used to establish the fund. The fund will directly benefit staff development at the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library and provide seed money for a variety of projects, such as registration fees for continuing education, workshops, conferences, research projects, or the purchase of significant print or electronic resources that will benefit library clients. Elizabeth Eaton, Ph.D.,the HAM-TMC Library executive director, said several training opportunities for library staff, that would not have otherwise been possible, have already been offered. The Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging community support of the HAM-TMC Library. Founded in 1958, the Friends have made considerable contributions to foster the value of education and research programs in Houston health care institutions.
