A collaborative project to assist faculty in their development of educational skills was recently announced by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, and the University of Houston.

One component of this collaborative effort is the Master Teachers’ Fellowship Program. This program is open to faculty at Baylor and UT-Houston’s Medical School and Dental Branch. The program, which empowers fellows to make a positive contribution to their college and department, is currently accepting applications and will begin this September.

Patricia Butler, Ph.D., associate dean for educational programs at UT-Houston, and Rebecca T. Kirkland, M.D., senior associate dean for medical education at Baylor, agree the program will prove invaluable for health sciences faculty.

“These opportunities will enable our faculty to enhance their awareness of current educational trends and to increase their teaching skills,” said Butler. “This program focuses on educational issues of common interest around the campuses of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Houston.”

The project also features a Master of Education in teaching with an emphasis in medical education. This University of Houston degree program is open to anyone who meets the entry requirements. Specifically geared toward improving teaching of the health sciences, the two-year curriculum will be taught in the Texas Medical Center and via the Internet. Applications are currently being taken for summer admission.

In addition, workshops and mini-fellowships are open to faculty and others as space permits. For additional information and contacts about these initiatives, visit www.bcm.tmc.edu/fac-ed/.
