Bo’s Place Volunteers Offer Grief Support for Children and Families

Founded in 1990, Bo’s Place is Houston’s only grief center for children and families, and enhances the lives of people who have experienced the death of a loved one. Located in the museum district, free grief support groups are offered for children and families who have lost a parent or sibling, and provides community education and training related to grief and loss for schools, faith-based communities, health care agencies and hospitals.

The Bo’s Place volunteer program is constantly growing to meet the needs of the ever-expanding children and family program, and has opened local satellite programs in the Fort Bend and Memorial areas. In addition, Bo’s Place has developed a specialized program for families who have experienced a traumatic death. Daytime programs commenced last fall for 4 year-olds, mothers and fathers who have lost a child, and grandparents who are caring for children as a result of a parent’s death.

For those interested in volunteering, sign up to attend a Bo’s Place volunteer information session, April 21 or 23. Group facilitators, kitchen greeters at nightly potluck dinners, maintenance support, office support and special event volunteers are needed. Bo’s Place is also seeking volunteers who want to share special or unique musical or artistic talents.
