Influenza’s Role in Heart Attacks
Focus of April 26 Event

Health care professionals will explore the role of influenza in the development of atherosclerosis and heart attacks at a symposium hosted by the Texas Heart Institute April 26. “Influenza Infection & Cardiovascular Disease: A Call for Clinical Trials” will feature experts from leading academic medical institutions as well as the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health.

The number of Americans who die of influenza each year has risen substantially over the last decade. This program will examine vulnerable patient populations, incidence of health complications and mortality, and approaches to controlling the impact of the disease through appropriate use of vaccinations and antiviral medications.

The Texas Heart Institute designates this educational activity for 7 credit hours in Category 1 of the Physician’s Recognition Award of the American Medical Association. The Texas Heart Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.
