Counselors Needed to Assist Special-Needs Campers Camp For All, a Houston-based, nonprofit camp for children and adults with special needs welcomes more than 2,400 campers and volunteers from 21 different Texas health organizations each summer. Located near Brenham, Camp For All serves hundreds of patients from Texas Medical Center institutions, including Texas Children’s Hospital, Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital for Children and TIRR. It provides unique camping and retreat experiences for groups challenged by conditions such as epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cancer, HIV, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, burns, developmental disabilities, hearing and sight impairments, and others. Many of these groups are in need of mature and caring older teens and adults to volunteer as In-Cabin Counselors for their week-long camping sessions. Volunteers will work directly with one or more special-needs campers, assisting them while in the cabins, at mealtime and during activities on the site. Volunteers must be dependable, responsible and have a mature outlook and caring personality. Attendance at a group orientation prior to going to camp is required. The 206-acre Camp For All facility is barrier-free and works to enrich the lives of those with chronic illnesses or disabilities through many specially designed programs, including an equestrian program, a small animal program, biking, fishing, canoeing, arts and crafts, archery, a ROPES Challenge Course, team sports, and much more.
