Sorority Brings Holiday Cheer to HCPC Patients

Alpha Delta Pi – Houston Alumnae Association, is a special partner not only to The University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center, but to many other institutions in the Texas Medical Center, as well. The sorority is the oldest in the United States, with the Houston chapter originating in 1917. Alpha Delta Pi and the Harris County Psychiatric Center have been partners since 1992.

Association Coordinator Jodie Trncak, who became a volunteer at the psychiatric center in 1990, convinced the group in 1992 to make holiday stockings for the hospital – a project that continues today.

"Jodie and Alpha Delta Pi are very special to HCPC," said Carol Rone, Harris County Psychiatric Center volunteer coordinator. "Their December volunteer project supports the true meaning of the holiday season."

Alpha Delta Pi has also increased the number of holiday gift goodie bags, now providing a gift bag for every HCPC patient. Each bag might include socks, toiletries, cards, candy, hair accessories, coloring books, crayons, small stuffed toys, individual games, and many other items. Every bag is unique and labeled for woman, man, child or adolescent. The group also provides additional items for children and adolescents during the holiday season. Jodie Trncak is the driving force behind the sorority’s holiday gift bags for the hospital, coordinating the stuffing and delivery of the bags with dedication and care.

Thanks to Alpha Delta Pi and Trncak, the hospital celebrates the holidays with a gift for each patient.
