TIAA-CREF Honors Medical Research & Education The Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association College Retirement Equities Fund, or TIAA-CREF, one of the largest private pension systems in the nation, will soon kick off its Legacy of Leadership appreciation campaign, honoring and highlighting the achievements of Houston’s medical research and educational institutions. In 2003, the ongoing campaign will provide sponsorships, awards and an educational seminar series to institutions and individuals engaged in medical research and education. TIAA-CREF will announce these events and programs in the coming months. TIAA-CREF is the premier pension system for people employed in education and research in the United States, serving approximately 15,000 institutions and 2.5 million participants. “For 84 years, TIAA-CREF has provided the education and research community with trusted retirement planning and sound financial advice,” said Rochelle Cummings, regional vice president for TIAA-CREF. “Along the way, we have established long-term relationships with some of Houston’s outstanding and renowned research and educational institutions and with the professionals who staff and lead these organizations. With the launch of our 2003 appreciation campaign, we aim to raise the level of recognition and support provided to Houston’s medical and educational institutions and organizations.” TIAA was established in 1918 by the Carnegie Foundation to ensure the financial well being of educators. CREF, established in 1952, was the nation’s first variable annuity. Today, the organization’s non-commissioned financial professionals counsel the faculty and staff of America’s education and research communities. “Houston has created a true, world-renowned legacy of leadership in medical education and research,” said John Douglas, south central region assistant vice president and director for TIAA-CREF. “These leaders have been our clients and partners for almost 40 years, and we want to do whatever we can to support and recognize their continued legacy of outstanding achievement, development and education.” ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/03_15_03/page_11.html |
