Texas Children’s President and CEO Named Chairman of Hospital Association by JENNIFER HART Texas Children’s Hospital Mark A. Wallace, president and CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital, has been named chairman of the board of the Children’s Hospital Association of Texas, or CHAT. The nonprofit children’s hospital association works to assure that Texas children have access to high-quality, comprehensive and appropriately funded health care. "The goal of CHAT is to educate lawmakers and the public about children’s health care issues and health policies specific to children’s hospitals," Wallace said. "I am honored to be part of this organization and look forward to contributing to helping raise awareness about the health care needs of children in Texas." CHAT represents all six of the nonprofit, freestanding children’s hospitals in Texas. These hospitals have common missions – to be pediatric centers of excellence, serving all children, regardless of ability to pay. "The highest priority for CHAT is to sustain state and federal support for programs important to children, especially Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program," Wallace said. "Priorities also include improved reimbursement for physicians, particularly primary care pediatricians as well as pediatric specialists and subspecialists," he added. "I will be addressing this issue as chairman of CHAT with the assistance of Dr. Ralph D. Feigin, physician in chief at Texas Children’s Hospital and president and CEO of Baylor College of Medicine." Founded in 1988 and based in Austin, CHAT provides information and resources on pediatric health care to the public, government officials, the media, and to the children, families, trustees and health care professionals of children’s hospitals. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/03_15_02/page_02.html |
