TMC Library Hosts Tours, Demonstrations on Leap Year Day (But You're Welcome Every Day!)

On February 29, the Houston Academy of Medicine/Texas Medical Center Library hosted an all-day open house with tours and brief lectures. The theme of the day was "An Extra Day in Your Schedule," and encouraged all Houstonians to use the extra day of leap year to explore the library and its offerings. In the top photo, left, Elizabeth Williams, M.L.S., demonstrates TEXAS HealthInfo at the Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service, a service for patients, families and anyone in the community to explore for health care information. Another highlight of the HAM/TMC Library is the John P. McGovern Historical Collections and Research Center. In the photo, middle, Elizabeth White, M.L.S., shows an exhibit from this fascinating medical history collection. At a presentation during the day, Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library president Dr. Earl J. Brewer (right, in the photo at the bottom) presented a check for $180,000 to library interim director Dr. Robert Beck, designated for the continued work of the McGovern collection in preserving the heritage of Houston's medical history.
