Health Grant Benefits Fifth Ward Children Efforts to boost health enhancement and education in Houston’s Fifth Ward got a shot in the arm recently when St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities received a $123,000 grant for use in the medically underserved community. The grant, from the Interfaith Healing Program at Atlanta’s Emory University, also includes technical assistance. St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities is the first Texas organization to receive such a grant, which was part of President George W. Bush’s $24.8 million commitment to faith- and community-based organizations. St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities will use the grant to benefit Project MOVE, which sponsors a school-based pediatric mobile unit. Made possible with the collaboration of Communities in Schools, Project MOVE’s mission is to provide free health services for children while helping parents identify a medical home and affordable health insurance. Project MOVE’s Pediatric Mobile Unit is a joint effort with St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities, Communities in Schools, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School and School of Nursing, Houston Independent School District and the Fifth Ward Health Collaborative. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmcnews/02_15_03/page_11.html |
