"A Journey of Imagination" is the theme of the Doctors’ Orchestra of Houston’s fifth concert.

Featuring guest narrator Barbara Bush and guest duo-pianists Shelia Kay Ferrendelli and Charles Tauber, the concert will commence at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Moores Opera House on the University of Houston campus.

The Doctors’ Orchestra is an all-volunteer group made up of medical professionals who work in the Texas Medical Center.

The theme of this concert focuses on the importance of literacy – a cause Barbara Bush has been advocating for years. The former first lady will showcase reading as she narrates Saint Saens’ "Carnival of the Animals."

"We’re very proud and lucky that Mrs. Bush has agreed to participate. It has made everything much more special for us to know she is supporting us," said Libi Lebel, the orchestra’s music director. "We want to dedicate this concert to children, literacy, and health."

To help illustrate the concert’s theme, the orchestra is holding an essay contest for Texas Medical Center pediatric patients age 18 and younger. All contestants will receive a free Doctors’ Orchestra CD, and the winner will receive free tickets to the concert and a special award.

The concert repertoire also includes the "Marriage of Figaro Overture" by Mozart, "Finlandia" by Sibelius, and "Capriccio Espangol" by Rimsky Korskakov. Elaine Kennedy, a KUHF radio producer, will emcee the event.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and children, and are available at Pender’s Wadler-Kaplan Music Co., 3901 S. Main St., (713) 529-2676 or AllRecords, 1955 W. Gray, at the River Oaks Shopping Center, (713) 524-4900. Tickets also are available at orchestra rehearsals, which take place Wednesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in The University of Texas Medical School at Houston’s fifth floor gallery.
