  • "Why Is Houston's Air So Bad?" a public meeting sponsored by Mothers for Clean Air, Feb. 26, 6:30 p.m., at Emerson Unitarian Church, 1900 Bering Drive. Representatives from the City of Houston and the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission will discuss the topic.

  • The extra day in February will be devoted to informal presentations, tours and demonstrations at the Houston Academy of Medicine/Texas Medical Center Library. Beginning at 10 a.m., Feb. 29, the Library will be open to the public. The Library houses a vast collection of health information, including much which can be accessed from your home via computer. Also open all day will be the John P. McGovern Historical Collections and Research Center.

  • The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center has launched its first on-line publication, CancerWise, exclusively in the Houston Chronicle's "Health and Medicine" section, which can be found at the Web site www.chron.com. CancerWise is an interactive publication and has been created to educate the general public about cancer by providing accurate and concise information. It will also provide links to other cancer information sites.

  • A new group, Self Help for Hard of Hearing People, will begin meeting in March at the Post Oak YMCA, 1331 Augusta Dr. For information, call 713-781-1061, ext. 45.

  • St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital will be offering two classes beginning in March: Life Long Weight Management Class and Quit Smoking. For information about the classes, call 713-791-8680.
