Health Studies Program Ranks Second Nationally

by ROY KRON
Texas Woman’s University

In a report by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students, the doctoral health studies program at Texas Woman’s University ranked second nationally in a recent survey of recommended practices, and tied with Harvard University’s Ph.D. health policy program.

First place went to the public health school doctoral program at the University of California at Los Angeles by one point.

The "recommended practices" score is an average of all other scores the universities received on the survey, excluding overall satisfaction. Survey areas that counted toward the "recommended practices" score included: information for prospective students, preparation for a broad range of careers, teaching and teaching assistant preparation, professional development, career guidance and placement services, controlling time to degree, mentoring and program climate.

"The results of the survey simply confirm my observations of the graduate faculty in health studies at TWU," said Dr. Jean Pyfer, dean of the College of Health Sciences. "They are a very talented and caring group of professionals who have a deep commitment to providing students every support necessary to succeed in their doctoral programs."

Survey results are available at http://www.nagps.org.
