Renal Dialysis Unit Makes the Grade

Texas Children’s Hospital’s renal dialysis unit recently surpassed rigorous requirements on unannounced federal and state licensure surveys by Texas Department of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Texas has strict rules and regulations in place governing the care of end-stage renal-disease patients. Texas Children’s not only passed the inspection; it was found to have no Texas Department of Health licensure deficiencies.

"The surveyors from the Texas Department of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services continue to be impressed with the unit’s proactive performance-improvement plan, its fully certified nursing staff and the hospital’s family-centered care environment," said Helen Currier, clinical program specialist in the renal dialysis unit at Texas Children’s.

"The Texas Children’s renal dialysis unit is seen as a leader in pediatric renal issues," Currier continued. "Our team is very dynamic and recognized worldwide because of the expertise and research that result from our program."

The renal dialysis unit at Texas Children’s recently expanded from 10 to 14 hemodialysis stations to serve patients better. It has added two clinic/treatment rooms to accommodate visits from home peritoneal dialysis patients.
