Construction Update Campus Projects Several construction projects continue on the Texas Medical Center campus. Baylor College of Medicine's Center for Comparative Medicine is scheduled for completion in the spring, 2000. Located between the College and Garage 6 on the north side of Bertner Ave., this project continues to have little effect on traffic flow except for construction equipment and trucks entering and leaving the site. Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, The Denton A. Cooley Building is scheduled for completion in 2001. Located at the northeast intersection of Bates and Moursund, this project also has little effect on traffic flow on Moursund. At this date, the foundation mat has been poured and cranes have been brought on site to begin the constructing the structure. The M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Faculty Center is being constructed south of Holcombe on Herman Pressler Dr. The superstructure is complete. There is little effect on traffic. The Texas Children's Hospital project, located at the corner of Fannin and Holcombe is scheduled for completion in 2002. There has been minimal effect on traffic on Holcombe traveling west or Fannin going north. Bates St. off of Fannin is limited to emergency vehicles. The City of Houston and the Metropolitan Transit Authority have begun an ambitious renovation project of Fannin Street and the utilities beneath it. The project is scheduled for 15 months, to be completed in early 2001. During phase one of the project, now completed, the median was removed and temporary asphalt was laid in its place and on the innermost northbound and southbound lanes. During phase two of the Fannin Street project now under way, traffic will be limited to the west side and center of the street while the underground utility work is done on the east side. Phase three will be the reverse of this, with underground utility work on the west side of the street. Finally, in phase four, the median and center lanes will be rebuilt. Drivers not coming to the Texas Medical Center are strongly encouraged to take alternate routes around the construction, such as Main Street, Route 288, Almeda Blvd., and Kirby Drive for north/south travel and Holcombe, MacGregor, Binz, Hermann Dr. and Southmore for east/west travel. Drivers coming to the Texas Medical Center should try entrances to the campus from Holcombe, Braeswood and MacGregor. ©2006 Texas Medical Center E-Mail: tmcinfo@texmedctr.tmc.edu URL: http://www.tmc.edu/tmc-construction.html |
