Did you know a simple test you can detect your blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels? Combined with a quick blood pressure check and a few body measurements, these important numbers inform women of their risk for developing heart disease and stroke. If you have diabetes or pre diabetes, you are more likely to have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and be overweight or obese. Although you may not be experiencing any symptoms you could have uncontrolled risk factors and now is the time to Know Your Numbers so you can make lifestyle changes or seek professional help before it is too late. THI’s Center for Women’s Heart and Vascular Health is conducting Houston HeartReach health screenings at 6 locations this year to encourage women to learn more about their own risk. Registration is required and space is limited so contact the location nearest you or register online. To see a full list of the screenings planned this year, visit www.Texasheart.org events page. Houston HeartReach is a collaborative effort joining the cardiovascular clinical and research expertise of Texas Heart Institute’s Center for Women’s Heart & Vascular Health with the community outreach organizations of the Greater Houston area.
