Irish Contributions to the Science of Medicine

Dr. John P. Cooke will discuss the history of the contribution of Irish scientists and physicians to the advancement of medical diagnosis and therapy. He will also introduce his contribution to the field, focusing on his research on how to reverse aging of the heart and vessels.

Dr. Cooke is Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the Houston Methodist Research Institute and the Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Regeneration in the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center. Dr. Cooke trained in Cardiovascular Medicine at the Mayo Clinic and obtained a Ph.D. in physiology there.

Dr. Cooke has served as President of the Society for Vascular Medicine, as a Director of the American Board of Vascular Medicine, and as an associate editor of Vascular Medicine.
