Exciting improvements are coming to the corner of Fannin and Cambridge Streets to be known as the Hermann Park Family Commons. Join us for a fun day in the Park where you can learn about the development and provide feedback on what you’d like to see in this area of the Park.

Conservancy staff will be on hand to share preliminary ideas for the Hermann Park Family Commons and take your questions and feedback! Food trucks and family-friendly activities will also be present. We also encourage you to bring a picnic to enjoy with your friends and family!

Conservancy members are invited to join us at Kinder Station beginning at 9 a.m.for an exclusive train ride and discussion about this exciting project. Not a member but want to join us for this exclusive hour? Join today. Current members can RSVP to membership@hermannpark.org.

The Conservancy recently completed a bold update to Hermann Park’s master plan that lays out a strategic vision for the next 20 years of Park improvements. While this plan outlines improvements that will impact the Park’s 445 acres, improvements focus on four key areas, the Park Center, Bayou Parkland, the Park Perimeter, and the Hermann Park Family Commons, the section of Parkland located at the intersection of Fannin and Cambridge streets adjacent to Rice University and the Texas Medical Center.

The Hermann Park Family Commons has long been a section of the Park where families play and picnic, however, it is far from meeting its full potential of being an activated and engaging space for Park visitors. The Hermann Park Family Commons will be the first area undertaken in the new master plan and will be transformed into a welcoming, civic landscape with added Park services and play areas.

The Hermann Park Family Commons is located at the intersection of Fannin and Cambridge Streets, near the Buddy Carruth Playground for All Children and the Fannin Picnic Pavilion. This event is free and open to the public. Concessions will be available for purchase. Free parking is available in Parking Lot S, located next to Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church. For a detailed map, click here. You may also get to the Family Commons by taking METRORail and getting off at the Hermann Park/Rice U stop or by utilizing the Hermann Park Railroad.

Can’t make this event but still want your thoughts and ideas heard? Send us an email at ideas@hermannpark.org.
