Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the heart has matured as a clinical method for detecting scars due to cardiac diseases. Advances in parametric mapping techniques have improved the ability of non-invasive MRI to measure the extracellular matrix volume (ECV) of the heart, which can feed into cardiac scar formation. Limited outcomes data exist on the utility of ECV as a risk marker for subsequent heart failure events. We will present our center’s experience with a large cohort of patients with measured ECV. We also will discuss ongoing work for assessing left ventricular reverse remodeling in corrected valvular heart disease.
