The Houston Health Department, in collaboration with the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and community wide experts in antibiotic stewardship will come together again to strengthen our collective efforts in preserving antibiotics at the Third Annual Houston Antimicrobial Stewardship Symposium. The symposium will bring together several local and national experts in a city-wide forum to discuss antimicrobial stewardship and the increasing challenges associated with antimicrobial resistance. Our key note speaker will be Captain Lauri Hicks, DO, a CDC medical epidemiologist whose areas of concentration include antibiotic resistance and use, outbreak investigations, and bacterial respiratory diseases. In addition, we will have other key leaders in antimicrobial stewardship and interactive working sessions on Antimicrobial Stewardship Dilemmas in Clinical Practice: A Case Based Discussion (Workshop A) and Antimicrobial Stewardship Metrics: Developing Your Metrics and How to Utilize Them to Drive Change (Workshop B).
