The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) addresses the most complex challenges to human health, drives policy to elevate the quality of health care delivery and advances research focused on improving patient outcomes.

As Houston’s health university, UTHealth is the most comprehensive academic health center in The University of Texas System and the U.S. Gulf Coast region and is home to schools of biomedical informatics, biomedical sciences, dentistry, medicine, nursing and public health.

UTHealth educates more health care professionals than any other health-related institution in the State of Texas and features one of the nation’s largest medical schools and the highest-ranked nursing graduate school in Texas. Giuseppe Colasurdo, M.D.

Giuseppe Colasurdo, M.D., is president of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) and dean of McGovern Medical School. An internationally known researcher and pediatrician, Colasurdo has published more than 120 manuscripts, abstracts, book chapters and review articles, and holds editorial reviewer positions on several scientific journals, including The American Journal of Physiology, The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Pediatric Pulmonology.

Colasurdo completed his residency at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) and his fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Science Center and the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, where he focused his studies on the autonomic regulation of the airway smooth muscle, the biology of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection and ontogeny of airway dysfunction and inflammation in childhood asthma.

An active clinical pulmonologist, Colasurdo has hospital privileges at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
