Vice President of Communications
Christen David joined the Texas Medical Center in January 2016 as vice president of communications. In her role, she is responsible for public relations, strategic communications, digital and social media, and the TMC news department. Her team publishes TMC Pulse, a monthly magazine featuring high-impact photography and original features reflective of the exceptional individuals and innovations within the medical center community and across the city of Houston.
Previously, David was the director of corporate communications at United Airlines in Chicago, where she led the team responsible for external communications related to safety, security, financial and quarterly earnings, crisis communications, environmental affairs, legal, HR, real estate and airport facilities, and federal/state/local government affairs. David’s first job in the airline industry was as a public relations manager at Continental Airlines headquartered in Houston, before accepting a position in Chicago when the company merged with United Airlines to form the world’s largest airline in 2010. In her role as a spokeswoman for both airlines, David developed and maintained relationships with key media, including The Wall Street Journal, The Associated Press, The New York Times, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Houston Chronicle, Bloomberg, ABC News, NBC News, CNBC, CNN, NPR, Reuters and local television affiliates.
Additionally, David served as director of communications at a renewable energy company and a health care trade association. She began her career as a writer/editor at her alma mater, Baylor University. She has experience managing employee communications, constituent and alumni publications, web and digital communications and special events.
David earned a Master of Arts in Journalism from Baylor University, where she also earned her undergraduate degree in Journalism/Public Relations and Psychology.
