Hospital Laundry Cooperative Association

"Through these doors pass the best Hospital Laundry staff in America" is a slogan that greets employees of Texas Medical Center Hospital Laundry (TMC Laundry) every day of the year as linen service is provided to owner hospitals M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and Hermann Hospital. TMC Laundry is distinguished as a pace-setting nationally-known institution among hospital laundries. Service began on a cooperative basis in 1974. Employees average 8 years of service - a statistic that is seldom surpassed for hospital laundries.

Annually approximately 7 million pounds of clean linen is provided to both hospitals and medical clinics. Packs of linen are sterilized for use in surgery. Other linen is processed following standards set for hospitals themselves. TMC Laundry has capacity for additional volume of linen service for not-for-profit medical institutions.

Laundry equipment used at TMC Laundry is state-of-the-art. One washer is approximately 11 feet high, 35 feet long and processes 1100 pounds at a time. Chemicals are automatically injected to electronically-controlled wash formulas based on the type of linen being processed. Each dryer holds up to 400 pounds per load. Linen moves automatically from the washer to the dryer by a robot-like shuttle.

TMC Laundry is a stand-alone facility that is controlled by a Board of Directors - representatives of M. D. Anderson and Hermann hospitals and Texas Medical Center. Service by a staff that cares is the hallmark of TMC Laundry.
