Check Out High Chairs to Ensure Optimal Safety

When selecting a high chair for baby, take time to review construction and safety features. Here are some things to look for, said Dr. Nancy Kelly, a pediatrician with Texas Children's Hospital.

  • Be sure the chair is sturdy and has a wide leg base, which is harder to tip over.

  • Make sure restraint belts are durable, adjustable and attach securely to the seat.

  • Select a chair that has tray locks that are easy to use, but safe enough so baby cannot undo them.

  • If the chair has vinyl cushions, check for sharp edges that can scratch baby's legs.

  • Inspect locking devices on folding models to ensure stability.
