Are There Certain Foods That Could Cause a Child to Choke?

A number of foods are hard for a toddler to chew and could become lodged in the throat and windpipe.

Children under age 5 should be supervised when eating apple chunks and slices, grapes, hot dogs, peanuts, round candies, and chunks of uncooked vegetables like carrot sticks. It is also important to make sure children never walk around or lie down while they are eating.
